SUMMARY:Schneider Electric - An Introduction To EV Chargers
DESCRIPTION:17th June 2021 – Singapore had recently announced its ambitious target to phasing out Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles by 2040. Singapore has since introduced several initiatives in this area. These include an Electric Vehicle (EV) early adoption incentive and a rebate for purchases of EV cars and taxis for the period 2021 to 2023. \nSECA is doing our part by updating our members with the Installation and Maintenance of EV chargers and other related services. \nSchneider Electric recently hosted fellow SECA members at its Singapore HQ to share insights into electrical panels and electrical work relating to EV chargers. We would to express our appreciation to Schneider Electric Singapore for this valuable knowledge-sharing session. \nFor SECA members who were unable to attend the first session\, Schneider Electric Singapore’s Ashok Menghani (SECA Council Member) will organise another session for your benefit. \nThank you for arranging these sessions\, Ashok!

SUMMARY:Discussion with Prime Minister's Office On Covid-19 Impact
DESCRIPTION:23rd June 2021 – We met up with representatives from the Community Liaison Unit (CLU) of the Prime Minister’s Office via Zoom today. Our focus was on the impact of the Covid-19 situation on the construction industry\, particularly on electrical contractors and workers. We would like to thank the CLU in taking the time effort for this constructive meeting. \nOur members continue to face challenges in various areas. Examples of these are: a general decrease in business activities\, worker productivity\, increases in materials costs\, manpower shortages\, changing / new policies\, and attracting the younger generation to join our industry. These concerns were raised and noted during this meeting\, with further discussions and actions to follow. \nAs an association representing our industry members\, we will continue to engage the relevant government bodies to address such matters. SECA strongly believes that such direct feedback and community-engagements will better enable our country’s policy planning and roll-outs. Our industry and members’ lot will then improve. \nRepresenting SECA were – Mr John Tan\, Mr Somchai Virabhak\, Mr Edward Kway\, Mr Keith Lai\, Mr Larry Chua\, Mr Ng Chuan Yong\, and Mr Goh Som Seng.

SUMMARY:Zoom Call With BCA's Manpower Strategy & Planning Group
DESCRIPTION:We had a productive discussion with BCA’s Manpower Strategy & Planning Group on 24th August 2021 to better coordinate our efforts in both our manpower efforts. \n\n\n\n\nThis is a follow-up to our previous discussions with Minister of State Mr Tan Kiat How\, the Building Construction Authority (BCA) and the Community Liaison Unit from the Prime Minister’s Office seeks to reduce the weaknesses / gaps in order to strengthen the robustness and sustainability of the local construction / electrical engineering sectors. \n\n\n\n\nThe collapse of one of the largest contractors in the industry\, the Greatearth group\, has sent shockwaves throughout the industry\, with the flow-on effects not yet fully felt\, especially by the smaller players like subcontractors. \n\n\n\n\nTo reduce the risks of (or even preventing) such incidences occurring in the future\, SECA believes in taking a proactive approach. We have put forward suggestions such as those practiced in the United Kingdom (eg. a Price Fluctuation contractual regime)\, and an Extension of Time regime which will alleviate some of the supply and logistics problems faced by firms. \n\n\n\nSECA’s objective is to strengthen our industry\, through attracting new blood and contributing to upskilling. We will continue to work upon is industry career training\, promotion and retention\, working closer with education institutions and improvements in managing the LEW regime.\n\n\n\n– Team SECA
